WeeWorld gets $15.5M funding
(DigitalEvangelist) Red HERRING reports that one of my favourite companies WeeWorld has managed to secure the money needed to take it on to the next level. Celia Francis tells me that she has another big deal in Legal at the moment and that she hopes to beef up the staff.

Reality Television of the Internet
(BusinessWeek) That’s what Jon Gibs of Nielsen//NetRatings calls social-networking sites, which the market research firm today says attracted almost half of all Web users–led by MySpace, of course. There are certainly parallels to reality TV, but I hope they’re more than mostly mindless entertainment that’s cheap to produce. That’s certainly not how the participants see them. And the instant that folks running these sites start to think they own this “content,” they’re likely to see their unpaid content producers depart for more genuine services.

At the heart of web 2.0

So, last month I spent two weeks in Silicon Valley, meeting people at the very beating heart of the internet economy. And the feeling you get speaking to people there is that the web has never been so exciting.

Once Bitten, Twice Bold
(Forbes) For those who are wondering, Web 2.0 is just getting started. Yeah, I said it. Witness the frenzy at marquee venture capital firms. Given the piles of money they’re deploying, we’ve probably got three to five more years of new deals ahead of us. VC firms typically take that long to invest each fund–and many firms are only now beginning to bet on Web 2.0 startups.
