Progress Update: Bugs day - Saturday

bugs

Our alpha meter is moving pretty fast, but it’s only because we have been working so hard during the last few days. Last week we came to the conclusion that we have to speed up our work so we made the agreement that we will work on Saturday. I saw that the guys are not so happy about this but they told me that they understand that we have to finish on time and there can not be any delay. I really appreciate that they all came in in a good mood (especially Robert, who is far away from his wife and new-born son).

Everyday Iwona, our internal alpha tester, is going through the entire application and making a report of all bugs/problems. Unfortunately we do not have enough time to remove all the problems at the same moment they appear–we are working on other things–and removing some of them is very time consuming. I had the idea that maybe we could try to set up a similar session to Debian Bug Squashing Party during this working Saturday.

As always, we started at 9.00 and after 1 hour of work we lost our network connection. Yes, the largest Polish DSL provider was probably having a similar session and found a bug in the entire structure–causing us to go offline for 4 hours. Unfortunately our code repository server and alpha server is not located in our office, so we couldn’t continue work. I took the guys for lunch and we had a big chat about the problem which Todd describes.

We came to some smart conclusions including that we should never use radio buttons–especially not with default values and two options–we should be using checkboxes: they are simpler. We should also try to pass as much as we can through images, so people can really decide quickly what they want/need.

We will try to implement some of our thoughts on Monday and see how it goes. After we came back to the office we finished our bug session, and it looks like the internal part of the website is finished, and can go live. The upcoming week will be dedicated for the people-relation module and templates for accounts.

Four hours without dsl? Does not only happen in PL. Here in the US the power was down for 3 hours in the middle of the day.
Good to hear you managed so many details this weekend. Wonder what will happen with the people-relation module: you sure have a father in need of such a module over there!

Have your say
