Nederlands online rouwinitiatief rondt eerste financieringsronde af
(Frontrunner-Het Financieele Dagblad) Het klimaat voor start-ups lijkt steeds beter te worden. Neem nu het Nederlandse internetbedrijf Respectance. Deze start-up heeft vandaag een eerste financieringsronde afgesloten, geleid door Solid Ventures. Naast Solid investeren ook een aantal informals. Hoe groot de financiering in het nu nog omzetloze bedrijf is, is niet bekendgemaakt.

Coping with death on the web
(BBC) Some may regard the idea of messaging condolences to someone electronically as inappropriate but to those growing up on Facebook and MySpace it is becoming second nature. When sudden, violent death visits a college or school as it did at Virginia Tech on 16 April, it can turn social networking sites into channels of breaking news, and transform personal pages into makeshift memorials.

‘Online headstones’ idea for town
(BBC) St Mary’s Church in Usk, Monmouthshire is expected to run out of grave space within five years. A private cemetery in Usk castle grounds offers “green” burials but headstones and memorials are banned. Town officials hope an online memorial will allow relatives using it to leave tributes on the web instead.

Alicia Ross’ Mother Gives Moving Statement After Verdict
(CityNews) Sharon Fortis adopted Alicia when she was just a baby but the bond between the two couldn’t have been stronger. The family has constructed an online tribute to the 25-year-old, featuring pictures and a story of her life. Her mother also pens her own personal, poignant and sometimes painful recollections of the daughter she’s lost.

Launch Event
We officially launch Respectance this week (on Friday) at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam.
It’s kind of a techie venue for us but it’s a good opportunity to show others in the internet field what we’ve been up to. Of course, we’re using the web but Respectance is not about technology or software; it’s just about helping people do something they already do—just via a new channel.
