Remembering Steve Irwin on his 46th Birthday
![]()
Memories are still pouring for Steve Irwin, a naturalist and television celebrity, who died after his chest was fatally pierced by a stingray barb in 2006. He is sorely missed by all of us. One of his fans wrote, “I always wanted to meet you and Terri at Australia Zoo and see the zoo and all that it had because. Your energy was contagious. I just finished reading Terri’s book and want to see your zoo even more. You are so dearly missed. The world of animals was lucky to have you here on earth to protect them and to teach humans how to coexist with them. I am sure you are up in heaven taking care of the animals that has passed on.”
Steve Irwin was passionate about animals, the natural world, and the contact humans forged with the wild. His Aussie charm brought his message across the world. Some came to find him as adults, others as young children. But no matter their age, Steve Irwin brought out a new side in people.
Happy Birthday to Irwin. May his memories and the zeal he carried for wildlife live for ever.
